Arctic Monkeys: 'We were scared of doing arenas'
Shockwaves NME Awards Best Live Band speak at bash
Arctic Monkeys' Matt Helders has admitted that the band were frightened of playing arena dates last year.
After winning the Best Live Band Award at the Shockwaves NME Awards last night (February 24), the drummer suggested that initially the band were skeptical about the idea of playing such large shows, but caved in due to acknowledging the amount of fans who wanted to see them live.
"Obviously we were scared about doing arenas," he told NME.COM in a video interview you can watch on the right. "I supposed a few years ago we would have never imagined doing an arena thing, but when it came down to it a lot of people want to see us so we had to give into it. I suppose we pulled it off, it seemed to work well."
He added that following forthcoming live shows in the US the band may consider working on new material, saying: "We're pretty eager to record again. We'll see what happens."
