RITIRARSI....non c'è nessuna band che con l'album di debutto abbia fatto così tanto come gli oasis....non è solo un fatto di vendite: DM ha anche cambiato la storia della musica rock...l'unico album che c'è riuscito in tempi recenti è Is This It perché ha dato il via a 1000000000 di gruppi fotocopia degli strokes,e in certo senzo fanno parte di questa categoria anche gli arctic...pensate forse che sarebbero emersi senza il ciclone Is This It? assolutamente no....gli oasis il successo di DM lo devono solo alle loro band ispiratrici,ma non sono di certo stati lanciati grazie ai beatles e agli stone roses...comunque rispetto gli arcitc e tra qualche giorno mi comprerò il loro album...poi vedremo

e' vero quanto dice Mods, tutti impazziscono per loro, fanno di certo musica divertente e esaltante, ma non è assolutamente niente di nuovo.

Non la penso esattamente così..gli Oasis sono gli indiscussi re degli anni 90, però la strada l'hanno aperta altri gruppi come Stone Roses, Blur, Primal Scream, Charlatans,Teenage Funclub. Va cmq dato merito a chi ha risvegliato la musica inglese dopo alcuni anni di torpore. Gli Oasis erano i migliori, ma hanno avuto tanto successo anche perchè hanno trovato il terreno fertile per proporre dischi come DM e WTSMG.

Arctic Monkeys celebrate Number One with chaotic hometown show
Stagediving and a new song as the group play a tiny venue

Arctic Monkeys have celebrated their second UK Number One single in style with a hometown gig in Sheffield.

The low-key gig at the Sheffield Leadmill (January 22) was the same evening the band found out their latest single 'When The Sun Goes Down' had gone straight to the top of the charts - their second successive Number One single.

At the show, which also serves as a warm-up for their appearance on this week's ShockWaves NME Awards Tour, the band opened with both singles in succession.

From the stage singer Alex Turner looked amazed as the crowd sang back every word to the first verse of 'When The Sun Goes Down' - something which then happened with every song.

"I don't know if you know but we've got a CD coming out tomorrow," he smiled, before adding, "you've all fucking got it anyway!" in reference to the fact that the album leaked online earlier this month.

As well as showcasing tracks from debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', the band also found time to debut one brand new song titled 'Leave Before The Lights Come On'.

In the run-up to the show tickets for the gig were changing hands for hundreds of pounds, and many fans were left stranded outside, unable to get into the 800 capacity venue.

At one point in the performance Turner asked for the doors to be opened so the people outside could hear the music.

The gig, which was watched by the band's family and friends, ended with 'A Certain Romance', with Turner stage diving into the crowd.

The setlist ran:

'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'
'View From The Afternoon'
'Still Take You Home'
'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me'

After the gig record stores in the city opened their doors at midnight to start selling copies of the album as soon as possible.

non credo sia stato solo questo...loro sono stati (come loro stessi direbbero.. )i più grandi , gli unici ingrado di riportare il rock alla luce in tutta la sua potenza....ma non solo il rock come musica..ma proprio come attitudine!
quando uscirono DM e WTSMG si ritornò indietro...si respirò l'aria del rock di una volta...vi ricordate la scritta infondo alla copertina di wtsmg?..fece sentire una generazione nn più sola..per nn parlare di canzoni cone LIVE FOREVER...o ROCK N ROLL STAR che racchiudeva in se i sentimenti che tutti vivevano...nella loro semplicità ed arroganza hanno raccontato i sentimenti e le emozioni di un decennio...ed è per questo, secondo me, che hanno spopolato..
