Scissor Sisters Beat Keane To Top 2004 Album List (Just)


While Keane’s debut album had led the biggest selling album of 2004 list for the majority of the last 12 months, the Scissor Sisters have come from behind to nab the title at the last moment.


Since its release in May last year, Keane’s ‘Hopes And Fears’ had rarely been far away from the Top 5 of the album charts. In fact it held its place as the biggest selling album of 2005 through November and December, and looked like holding off the competition right up to the final hurdle.

However, the final end of year figures were announced by Music Week magazine this week (December 3), revealing that the Sussex trio have been narrowly beaten by The Scissor Sisters.

In total, the glam New York outfit sold an amazing 1,594,259 copies of their self-titled debut, a mere 582 copies more than ‘Hopes And Fears’ which lay on 1,593,677.

Last week (December 27) proved to be the decisive time, with The 'Sisters shifting 42,952 albums, easily beating Keane’s 32,011, as the two albums ended up number 2 and number 11 in the album charts respectively.

The third biggest selling album of the year was Robbie Williams Greatest Hits, notching up over 1.5 million sales with Katie Melua’s debut effort ‘Call Off The Search’ just behind in fourth place.
