Arctic Monkeys hit the big screen
And bring their mums and dads along to watch
The Arctic Monkeys got the big-screen treatment last night (Friday 7th April) at a premiere of the 'Scummy Man' short film in Sheffield.

Guitarist Jamie Cooke and bassist Andy Nicholson brought their parents to the Showroom Cinema for the preview screening of the film, which was inspired by band's Number One single 'When The Sun Goes Down'.

The screening was also attended by actress Laura Socha, who plays prostitute Nina in the film, its director Paul Fraser and over a hundred fans.

The night also saw the band's drummer Matt Helders make his big-screen debut, featuring in a small cameo role where he spurns Nina's illicit advances.

Made up of extended footage from the band's 'When The Sun Goes Down' video , the film explores the songs' lyrics in more depth and also stars Stephen Graham as violent pimp George - the 'Scummy Man'.

Shot around Sheffield, the film's locations include the Neepsend red light area of the city where the band rehearse and the neighbourhood that originally inspired the song.

The film has been awarded an 18 certificate, due to graphic scenes where Nina is repeatedly punched and kicked in the head then prepares and injects heroin.

Afterwards, there was a screening of the short film 'Just Another Day', an alterative view of the events in 'Scummy Man', seen from the perspective of the middle-aged taxi driver who befriends Nina.

'Scummy Man' is released on DVD on April 10.

Meanwhile, the Reverend And The Makers have been confirmed as the main support for the Arctic Monkeys' forthcoming UK tour.

Starting in Nottinghamon April 13, the tour takes in the band's biggest Yorkshire gig to date at Rotherham's Magna Centre before culminating at London's Brixton Academy on April 27.

Tonight (April

band members Andy Nicholson and Matt Helders warm-up for the tour by DJing a sold out night at Sheffield club Threads at DQ's Late Bar.

Arctic Monkeys blast through new songs at tour opener
Nottingham gets a live treat
Arctic Monkeys have completely reworked their live show for their latest UK tour - playing a three new songs for the first time.

The band played tracks from their forthcoming EP 'Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys', due at the end of the month, as well as another unreleased track 'Leave Before The Lights Come On', which has been played live for the last couple of months.

Newie 'Cigarette Smoker Fiona' was also played, alongside the title track of the EP. The Monkeys opened with 'Riot Van', another track rarely played live, and have brought fan favourite 'Mardy Bum' back into the set having dropped it for the dates on the ShockWaves NME Awards Tour in February. The show at Nottingham's Rock City marks the start of their first British headline tour since Monkey Mania hit in January.

"We've been away for a little while and we've seen some things. It's been fun," frontman Alex Turner told the crowd and he joked, "The trouble is we know too much now - everything is insincere."

Support tonight came from longtime Monkeys associate The Reverend with his band The Makers and from Little Flames. The actor Steve Graham, who plays the titular 'Scummy Man' in the film inspired by the 'When The Sun Goes Down' video, was in the audience.

Gli Arctic Monkeys difendono l'EP 'assurdo' in uscita

Gli Arctic Monkeys, che in questi giorni hanno in pubblicazione l'EP "Who the fuck are Arctic Monkeys?", disco da alcuni definito "assurdo" in quanto non legato all'uscita di un nuovo album, hanno difeso il lavoro affermando che non si tratta di un modo per guadagnare soldi facili. "Non stiamo cercando di mungere la mucca", ha affermato il leader Alex Turner. "Vogliamo solamente fare le cose come ci pare. La gente pensa che sia arroganza ed Ã¨ inevitabile che alcuni si stanchino di noi". Mentre in UK l'album "Whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not" si sta intanto preparando a sorpassare quota 1 milione di copie vendute, i Monkeys chiuderanno il tour britannico in cui sono impegnati in questi giorni il prossimo 27 aprile alla Brixton Academy di Londra.
