The Arctic Moneys have failed to impress American critics – with one review dubbing their first US shows “uninspiredâ€.
The band have attracted keen interest from the US press following their massive success in Britain, but most reviewers were distinctly underwhelmed by their first shows on their current American tour.
Many of the critics expressed disappointment at the Monkey’s performance after being lead to expect the second coming of Christ, following the massive hype surrounding them.
The Oakland Tribune, under a headline 'THAT’S IT?’, stated, "Few bands have fallen short to a greater degree than the Arctic Monkeys did in San Francisco. But, then again, few have had so much room to fall."
Trade bible Variety reported, “It was hard to square the generally uninspired performance with the album's youthful energy and crackling intelligence.
"Maybe this was an off night. Perhaps, for all the sales and hype, the band has been brought up too quickly and isn't ready to headline."
The Los Angeles Times was kinder, but still reserved in its comments that the show was, "less than you might have wanted it to be, but still rang with the urgency of a voice yearning to be heard and insisting that you pay attention."
Following their debut American appearance on Saturday Night Live, the Miami Herald ripped into them, stating, "The teen rockers revealed a lack of seasoning.
"The drummer sang laughably out-of-tune harmonies, its lead singer wasn't especially charismatic, the music felt catchy but unexceptional."
