Green Day scoop top honours

25 Aug 05 - The results of the Kerrang! Awards were revealed this evening - and in a shock twist, frontrunners System of A Down and Green Day failed to scoop the five nominations each that they were up for.

System walked away completely empty handed, although Green Day did win the prestigious Best Live Band and Best Band On The Planet awards - though they didn't turn up to collect their gongs.

Other winners included Marilyn Manson, who won the Icon Award and Funeral For A Friend who won Best British Band. Best single was Foo Fighters' Best Of You.

The event was held at a secret location in an East London brewery and was presented by filmstar turned frontwoman of The Licks Juliet Lewis and former Stereophonics' drummer Stuart Cable.

His former bandmates made a surprise appearance at the bash - but as 6 Music went to press, there had been no punch-ups.
