Black Sabbath still rock

OZZY Osbourne's Black Sabbath have topped a list of the 100 best British rock albums of all time.


The band's self-titled debut won a poll voted for by readers of metal bible Kerrang!, with follow-up Paranoid finishing fifth.

Ozzy appears in the list six times, more than any other artist.

Four Black Sabbath albums made the Top 100, as well as the star's solo records Blizzard Of Ozz and Diary Of A Madman.

Ozzy said of making Black Sabbath: "Back then you'd hear, 'if you go to San Francisco, be sure to wear a flower in your hair'.

"And we were like, 'what the f*** are they on about?'

"We lived in Aston, Birmingham, in drizzly rain. The only flowers I ever saw were on a gravestone in our local cemetery."

Kerrang's Top 100 features a mix of heavy metal, punk and glam rock.

Iron Maiden came second with Number Of The Beast, followed by Nevermind The B******s by the Sex Pistols and Led Zeppelin's IV.

Brit winners Muse appear in the Top 10 with Absolution, and other current acts Feeder, Lostprophets, Ash and Stereophonics also feature.

Magazine editor Ashley Bird said: "It's amazing to see so many incredible homegrown albums in one list, and without any of the abysmal fashion bands that currently clog up the music scene.

"These are the real opinions of proper rock fans."
