Rock band The Darkness to reform

The Darkness won a series of awards for their rock music
Rock group The Darkness are reforming - but without lead singer Justin Hawkins.
The three remaining members of the rock act, from Lowestoft, Suffolk, have announced that they have begun work recording a new album.

The new material will be released by the band under a different name. Hawkins quit the band after reportedly revealing a £150,000 cocaine addiction.

He checked into celebrity rehab clinic The Priory. The band's bassist, Richie Edwards, will take over as singer.

Confirming the news on his MySpace web page, Edwards told fans: "It's finally happened, the big red record button has been pressed and we've officially started our album."

The Darkness rose to fame in 2003 when they released debut album Permission to Land, achieving chart success with hits I Believe In a Thing Called Love and Growing On Me.

They went on to win three Brit Awards in 2004 and looked set to cement their place as one of the biggest bands in the world.

But fame took its toll and original bass player Frankie Poullain left the band in May 2005, blaming increased tensions with Justin Hawkins on his departure.

Hawkins was admitted to The Priory last August and two months later announced he had quit the band.

Ma Ola voleva andare oltre. Già durante il tour del 2003, infatti il leader del gruppo svedese stava scrivendo altra musica, e altri testi, sviluppando le sonorità, ma aggiungendo anche qualcosa in più.

Pensando bene di non lasciare questo nuovo style al caso, Ola chiese ed ottenne un "controllo creativo". Lui e il sesto membro non ufficiale del gruppo Jens Andersson formarono una unità di produzione che comprendeva il rinomato compositore di musica per film Nathan Larson (Boys don't cry e The Woodsman) e il mago del suono dei Tambourine Studios Per Sunding. Ola aveva ben chiaro in mente cosa voleva creare, rock con sonorità dance, musica che avrebbe fatto sì che la folla desiderasse muovere il corpo e ballare.

The Ark passano l'autunno del 2003 a creare demo e la maggior parte del 2004 a registrare il nuovo album, e il 27 dicembre del 2004 finalmente i The Ark rilasciano il loro nuovo album State of the Ark. Il primo singolo dell'album One of us is Gonna Die Young è immediatamente volato in cima alle classifiche svedesi, e l'album lo seguirà nelle prime settimane del 2005.

Il nuovo sound dei The Ark incontra critiche favorevoli e un notevole successo. Attualmente il gruppo cerca di sfondare in America, dove State of the Ark è stato pubblicato l'11 aprile del 2006.

Nell'ottobre dello stesso anno, i The Ark modificano la loro formazione, rendendo membro ufficiale Jens Andersonn alle tastiere.
