OASIS paid tribute to the Spanish, crackheads and recently deceased UK politician ROBIN COOK during their BENICASSIM FESTIVAL set tonight (August 7).
And earlier in the evening NME.COM grabbed a chat with Noel Gallagher, and found out he didn’t mind supporting Kasabian on the Escenario Verde stage.
He said of the festival: “I’ve never been before, Andy (Bell, bass player)’s been twice. We got our slot changed with Kasabian so we could watch them. This is no word of a fucking lie, we did the same when we were in Portugal two nights earlier and they were on after us. We’d never seen them live before and they fucking blew us away.â€
He added: “I hate using this yank word but they were fucking awesome.â€
The band, drawing easily the biggest crowd of the weekend, played a set similar to their recent UK stadium tour, with set closer ’Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ dedicated to former Labour Party cabinet minister Robin Cook, who died suddenly last week.
Liam Gallagher also dedicated ’Cigarettes And Alcohol’ to “the prisoners, alcoholics and crackheadsâ€. He also changed the words of ’Bring It On Down’, singing â€You’re the outcast, you’re the underclass, but you don’t care, because you’re smoking crack.â€
Later in the set Noel dedicated ’Mucky Fingers’ to the Spanish, after asking “How many British people are here?†–when he heard the huge response he insisted: “Be nice to the locals.â€
The set was:
’Fuckin’ In The Bushes’ (intro)
’Turn Up The Sun’
’Lyla’
’Bring It On Down’
’Morning Glory’
’Cigarettes And Alcohol’
’The Importance Of Being Idle’
’A Bell Will Ring’
’Live Forever’
’The Meaning Of Soul’
’Mucky Fingers’
’Champagne Supernova’
’Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’
Encore:
’Wonderwall’
’Don’t Look Back In Anger’
’My Generation’
